Oakland to Host Statewide Clean Tech Conference

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

October 26, 2011

Oakland to Host First-Ever Statewide Clean Tech Innovation Conference

Oakland, CA – Consistently ranked among the top 10 greenest cities in
the country and the regional epicenter of green industry, the City of
Oakland will proudly host the California Clean Tech Innovation
Conference on November 2-3, 2011 at the Kaiser Center. Produced by
Grow-California, this first-ever conference will bring together industry
influencers from across the state and nation to address key topics such
as industry trends, new technologies, global competitiveness and
leveraging publicly-funded research and private capital to deliver
innovative technologies and successful business models. The conference
culminates with the presentation of 19 “Game Changer of the Year” awards
for entities that have had significant impact on California’s green
industry, including three Oakland-based enterprises.

“Oakland has burst onto the national scene as a major hub for clean tech
companies,” said Mayor Jean Quan. “We are delighted to host this
top-level gathering of industry leaders as we advance our efforts to
attract even more sustainable businesses to Oakland and the East Bay
Green Corridor.”

The 2011 conference will attract emerging market leaders, major
corporations, government officials, early-stage companies, suppliers,
academia, venture capitalists, angel investors, mergers and acquisition
advisors and other industry experts. Featured speakers include: Mayor
Quan; Mike Rossi, Senior Advisor for Jobs & Business, Office of Governor
Jerry Brown; State Assemblyman V. Manuel Perez, Chair, Assembly
Committee on Jobs & the Economy; Bill Reichert, Managing Director,
Garage Technology Ventures and; Vikram Janardhan, CEO, Insera Energy and
author of “Energy Explained: Conventional Energy and Alternative.”
Day-one of the conference also includes a spotlight on Oakland as an
emerging clean tech hub with Michael Murray, CEO of Oakland’s Lucid
Design.

Three pioneering Oakland firms honored among the 19 “Game Changer of the
Year” awards include Sungevity, the nation’s most innovative,
customer-centric, residential solar provider; Lucid Design, creators of
the Building Dashboard(r) Network; and Waste Management, Inc., North
America’s leading provider of comprehensive waste management services.

Sungevity – Category: Innovation in Cleantech Marketing & Sales
Campaigns

Sungevity’s online iQuote process and Solar Lease program make it easy
and affordable for homeowners to benefit from solar power. Leveraging
web-based solar analytics and satellite imagery, it can provide
homeowners with a firm, same-day quote without a home visit and provide
savings on their electricity bills. This affordability and ease-of-use,
combined with Sungevity’s solar social network strategy, is all part of
the fast-growing company’s mission to accelerate solar into the
mainstream.

Lucid – Category: Innovation in Clean Energy Education

Founded in 2004, Lucid is a privately held cleantech software company
and pioneer in providing real-time information feedback to teach,
inspire behavior change and save energy and water resources in
buildings. Lucid’s team has made resource use visible, accessible and
engaging so that building occupants have the data visualization and
communication tools to manage and reduce their consumption. Lucid’s
Building Dashboard(r) Network allows people to view, compare and share
building energy and water use information on the web.

Waste Management, Inc. – Category: Innovation in Energy Investment &
Financing

Waste Management, Inc., is the leading provider of comprehensive waste
management services in North America. Through its subsidiaries, the
company provides collection, transfer, recycling and resource recovery,
and disposal services. It is also a leading developer, operator and
owner of waste-to-energy and landfill gas-to-energy facilities in the
U.S. Serving over 20 million residential, industrial, municipal and
commercial customers throughout North America, Waste Management’s 45,000
employees are committed to maximizing resource value, while minimizing
environmental impact so that both the economy and environment can
thrive.

A center of innovation and growth in green and cleantech industries,
Oakland is also home to industry leaders BrightSource Energy, First
Solar, KEMA, Sirona Fuels, Renewable Funding and many others. A charter
member of the East Bay Green Corridor, the city boasts more than 300
environmental, recycling and cleantech firms. Additional stimulus comes
from job training programs that are preparing a skilled workforce for
tomorrow’s green jobs and City policies that support energy efficiency,
waste reduction, transit-oriented development and environmental
stewardship.

In addition to the Oakland firms, four additional companies located in
the East Bay Green Corridor were named among Grow-California’s 19 “Game
Changers.” These include: Amyris Biotechnologies, Emeryville; MBA
Polymers, Richmond and; Energy Recovery, Inc., based in San Leandro.
Grow-California also compiled respective lists of the Top 40 and Top 100
Cleantech Innovation companies in California and Oakland/East Bay were
well represented, with the East Bay region garnering nearly one third of
the spots on all three lists. These rankings reflect the East Bay’s
competitiveness with Silicon Valley and other areas in this critical
segment of the state’s economy.

Formed in April 2011, Grow-California is a spin off of Golden Capital
Network, which has spent over 10 years helping businesses grow in
California. It’s mission is to foster jobs and wealth creation by
connecting innovative entrepreneurs, growth companies and market leaders
with capital, talent, academia, customers, and partners.

CEO’s Message

On November 2-3, Grow-California will be hosting the inaugural California Clean Tech Innovation conference at the Kaiser Center in downtown Oakland. There are many excellent conferences that highlight and focus on the clean energy sector. Our conference is unique in that it brings together all key influencers from across California that influence the clean tech industry, including CEOs from “Game Changing” market-leading companies, major corporations, angel and venture capital investors, media, policymakers and regulators, academia, grant funders, economic development organizations, and start-ups. As part of the conference, 15 clean tech companies will be named “Game Changers of the Year” for 2012 and honored at a special awards lunch with official State of California resolutions recognizing their important contributions to California’s leadership in the clean tech sector and for their positive impact on our state economy. Our “Game Changer” selection committee was sequestered on Wednesday to review the “Top 40” finalists for the awards. Next Monday we will be releasing the names of the winners who will be featured at the conference. They represent many of the “best of the best” in California. But today I’ll step back and recognize 100 of the compelling California clean tech companies who were nominated for the awards, and congratulate their individual and collective impact in the communities, for the state, and on the world overall. They are making a difference each and every day in sustainability, energy efficiency, environmental quality, recycling, green building, green transportation, renewable energies, and LED technologies, among many other areas of impact.

Over the next 4 weeks you’ll get regular updates about featured speakers, panelists, media participants, and start-ups who will be involved with the conference. Today I’m also pleased to announce that online registration for the conference is “live” and seating is limited.

Visit……………………to register.

Companies seeking to present at the conference must e-mail an executive summary to jon@grow-california.com by Friday, October 14 at the latest

The conference provides a unique opportunity for a maximum of 20 clean tech start-up and early-stage presenting companies to showcase their business opportunity and funding needs. Presented by Grow-California, this conference has a proven track record — presenting companies at prior conferences hosted by Grow-California’s CEO have gone on to raise over $1.2B in capital. Over the past dozen years over 1,400 companies have presented at Grow-California, including notable companies like StubHub and Pandora Media.

Companies will be selected — after meeting screening criteria for quality — on a first-come, first-served basis with all slots expected to be full by October 14. If selected, there is a nominal showcase fee. Some of the participating funders include:
